Deep Dyeing

Deep dyeing was pioneered by CPFilms in the mid-1950s. Today, we continue to advance our proprietary technology to offer a comprehensive selection of the latest-generation dyed and colored polyester films.

Our deep dyed films are used in a wide range of applications, including decorative laminates, protective overlaminates, solar control window films, filters for theatrical lighting, pressure-sensitive labels, and many others. The deep dyeing process is also used to produce COURTGARD™(PDF), our specialty UV-absorbing film that blocks 97% of damaging ultraviolet radiation.

Utilizing both water- and solvent-based dyeing processes, we can produce custom colors of all types — ranging from basic black to fluorescents and patterns — and accomplish this with virtually no color variation. In fact, we can match nearly any colored film requirement. Just ask!

Our deep-dyeing technology impregnates dyestuffs and UV absorbers throughout the matrix of the film substrate, ensuring that the color or UV protection will not flake, scratch, rub off or streak. Dyed films may also be metallized for heightened brilliance or as a base for other processes. The range of dyeing is extensive:

  • Light transmission: 85% VLT -5% (lower at some wavelengths)
  • Optical density: 0.10 - 1.3
  • UV protection: up to 97% absorption

Deep dyeing is available on film thicknesses ranging from 0.5 mil to 14.0 mil (12 to 350 microns), in widths to 78 inches (198 cm ). Available substrates include polyester (PET — filled, unfilled, matte or scratch-brushed), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), or others as requested.
